Managing Director
Mr. Madsen is a Managing Director with Epic Ventures and Zions SBIC. He was also President, CEO and Director of MACC (MACC) Private Equities, a later-stage publicly traded private equity firm with interests in diverse industries. Previously, Kent worked for Ford Motor Company in the Advanced Technology Group. While there, he developed mathematical and computational models analyzing vehicle areodynamic and thermodynamic properties and systems. He then transferred to the China Operations where he helped write, present and negotiate joint venture proposals. Kent then relocated to China to manage the Product Development of a newly established joint venture in China.
Prior to Ford, as a graduate student, Mr. Madsen taught courses in Engineering Thermodynamics and co-authored the Solutions Manual for Fundamentals of Classic Thermodynamics, 5th edition, published by John Wiley & Sons. Mr Madsen has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics with a Minor in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania. He also has a M.S.E. from the University of Michigan and a M.A. in International Studies, earned as a Lauder Fellow, from the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. His M.B.A. is from Wharton.
Kent is responsible for the oversight of the following Epic portfolio companies: Pivot Solutions, Q Therapeutics, Advent Solar, SpinSpotter, Everspin Technologies, and Zettacore.
Past oversight responsibilities include: Divx (DivX), Netcentives (NCNT), LeftHand Networks (Acquired by Hewlett Packard - HPQ), Cerberian (Acquired by Blue Coat Systems - BCSI), Advanced Software (Acquired by Embarcadero Technologies - EMBT), Linux Networx (Acquired by Silicon Graphics - SGIC), Everdream (Acquired by Dell - DELL), and Navitel (Acquired by Open TV - OPTV).
