Lumidigm Wins Prestigious “R&D 100” Award
Albuquerque, NM
Lumidigm, the biometric sensor company that
invented multispectral imaging of fingerprints, has been awarded a prestigious 2007 R&D
100 Award for its innovative J-Series Biometric Fingerprint Sensors.
R&D
100 Awards are given annually by R&D Magazine. Described as “The
Oscars of Invention” by The Chicago Tribune, the R&D 100 Awards
recognize the 100 most technologically significant products introduced
each year worldwide.
“I
want to congratulate the Lumidigm staff on winning this prestigious
award,” New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson said. “The work being done
at Lumidigm is cutting-edge and I’m pleased to have them as part of New
Mexico’s technology revolution.”
Economic
Development Department Secretary Fred Mondragon added, “The team of
engineers at Lumidigm have not only added a prestigious international
feather to their cap, they have drawn worldwide attention to New Mexico
as an international center for technology, research and development. I
offer my sincere congratulations and thanks to everyone at Lumidigm.”
Lumidigm’s
J-Series sensors are the first fingerprint readers to incorporate
multispectral imaging technology. In a fraction of a second, multiple
wavelengths of light coupled with advanced filtering techniques capture
images at and below the surface of the skin. The resulting high-quality
fingerprint images virtually eliminate common performance problems due
to poor images. The J-Series is ruggedized for applications in any
environment and also has the industry’s best anti-spoof technology.
The
J-Series development team was led by Lumidigm Chief Engineer Steve
Corcoran. “The J-Series is the first embodiment of Lumidigm’s
multispectral imaging technology,” says Corcoran. “Our challenge was to
develop multispectral analysis for the fingerprint imaging industry,
and do it in such a way that removed obstacles to high system
performance including harsh outdoor environments. It is gratifying to
have our accomplishment acknowledged by an R&D 100 Award.”
R&D
Magazine will publish a full list of this year’s R&D 100 Award
winners in their September 2007 issue. Lumidigm will formally accept
the award at a gala awards banquet on the evening of October 18 in
Chicago, Illinois.
Lumidigm’s next product
line, the easy-to-integrate Venus Series Biometric Fingerprint Sensor,
will be released this summer. For more information about Lumidigm’s
